Development

Operational efficiency, timing and distribution of products used to be very demanding for generic pharmaceutical companies. For business development the annual number of contracts is much higher compared to innovative (bio)pharmaceutical companies. Worldwide increasing number of generic companies, M&A of generic companies, specific local regulations and reimbursement developments intensified the competition in the generic products market. Lately a number of traditional generic companies expanded their innovation into the areas of active ingredients or formulations, or even started up biogenerics. Most innovating main pharmaceutical companies also added (bio)generic activities. Clearly the differences of generic companies compared to the more innovative (bio)pharmaceutical companies are therefore expected to disappear even more in the future.
